We are looking for the next PTA Executive Board and Chair positions for the 2024-2025 school year!
We welcome all parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts/uncles, neighbors, teachers, and school faculty to serves on PTA Executive Board and /or Chair positions. We will be holding elections at the next General Meeting on March 26, 2024.
All interested candidates must submit position request by March 10th for Executive Board positions, or May 6th for Chair positions. Nominees for Executive Board will be announced by March 19th.

Position Descriptions
President
The President serves as the presiding officer of the local PTA and presides over executive board and regular meetings. It is the President's responsibility to be well prepared. The President distributes all materials to the appropriate officer or chairperson. The President directs the affairs of the association in cooperation with the other members of the executive board for a term of office specified in the local PTA bylaws. Participation and cooperation secured from officers, chairpersons and members will determine the success of the administration.
1st Vice President
The vice president, whom may be called upon at any time to assume temporarily the place of the president, should make a thorough study of the president's duties and responsibilities and be familiar with the work of the association. The position is also responsible for the volunteers/room parents. The 1st VP coordinates PTA volunteer activities in the school in cooperation with the school staff. 1st VP is also responsible for PTA membership should a membership chair not be appointed.
2nd Vice President
The vice president, whom may be called upon at any time to assume temporarily the place of the president, should make a thorough study of the president's duties and responsibilities and be familiar with the work of the association. This position is also responsible for the assemblies/events. The 2nd VP coordinates the PTA assemblies/events int the school in cooperation with school staff. 2nd VP also oversees and supports decorations committee chair.
Secretary
The secretary keeps accurate records of the proceedings of the association. The primary qualifications include promptness, accuracy and a thorough knowledge of the PTA Mission, Purpose, bylaws, policies and procedures; an understanding of parliamentary law; and a sincere desire to help the president conduct a businesslike meeting.
Treasurer
The treasurer is the authorized custodian of the funds of the association. He/She receives and disburses all monies indicated in the budget and prescribed in the local PTA bylaws or as authorized by action of the association.
Historian
The historian prepares and updates a record of the activities and achievements of the association and makes historical facts available upon request to the membership. A permanent record of the activities should be kept in a convenient place, such as the school library. Historian also takes pictures at school events and shares with yearbook representative.
Parliamentarian
The parliamentarian should have a fair and impartial mind and attitude, as well as knowledge of parliamentary procedure. A parliamentarian in PTA - whether he/she serves at the local, council or area PTA level - should have a fundamental knowledge of the Mission, Purposes and policies of the PTA. Helps with protocol of all meetings.
Advocacy Chair
Chairperson and any interested parents, students, and community members shall communicate information regarding legislative activities affecting education in our state and district, and to foster participation in the political/legislative process.
Arts in Education - Reflections Chair
The focus of the Arts in Education chairperson is to promote the arts in the school and community to provide a well-rounded education. Additionally, the chairperson oversees the National PTA Reflections program in their school. Reflections chair promotes start of the event in May before the end of school, allowing students time to work on their entries over summer break. Chair continues to promote Reflections Contest, providing all rules and guidelines to students ; collect all entries; and work with CCCC Reflections Chair to enter winning entries to state level. This work is usually done by November.
Festival Chair
Chairperson is responsible for organizing, cleaning and preparing games for the school festival. Making sure all supplies needed for games are accounted for and ready to use. Chairperson is responsible for designing map of games for festival, assigning location for each game/activity. Responsible for preparing and setting up all prize buckets for each game. Festival chair is to work closely with 2nd VP.
Fundraising Chair
Fundraising should only be undertaken to provide funds for the promotions of PTA purposes and local PTA planned activities. The fundraising event should reflect the high principles of the association. The event should have educational, social and recreational value. Help promote and support both fundraisers and festival silent auction. This includes working vendors, preparation of materials, collection of monies and distributing products. Also, working with various local businesses to have a "Whitcomb Night" where the PTA earns a percentage of the proceeds. This chair works with the PTA President. If chair is not appointed, responsibility will be held by the PTA president.
Hospitality Chair
The hospitality chairperson creates a feeling of friendliness and warmth at each PTA function by greeting parents, distributing handouts, nametags, registration sheets, refreshments and other activities as planned. Plan various teacher/staff luncheons or breakfasts. Prepare/purchase treats, gifts, goodies, meals, snacks, prizes, etc. for Teacher Appreciation Week in May. This includes working with a limited budget and it is important to see outside donations in order to make a successful teacher week? Chair works with PTA board in all planning and executing of hospitality events.
Library Chair
Chairperson and any interested members are to assist librarian as needed with re-shelving books, helping with book fair and/or any other library events.
Literacy Chair
The literacy library chairperson helps organize volunteers for the literacy library and routinely collects the books and re-shelves them for the teachers. This chairperson works in connection with the Literacy Teacher. Assist with inventory and labeling of the literacy books.
Membership Chair
The membership chairperson builds an informed and participating membership by enrolling parents, teachers and interested citizens and ensures that membership lists and dues are sent to the Texas PTA Office on a regular basis. The chairperson encourages participation in state membership awards program.
School Store Chair
The school store chairperson is responsible for contacting volunteers to operate the school store for the assigned times and days that the school store is open. This chairperson is also responsible for submitting purchase requests to the treasurer or president.
SEPTA Chair
Chairperson is responsible for representing all Whitcomb Elementary special education, AA/PPCD, and gifted students and their families on the PTA board. Chairperson is responsible for communicating any updates, law changes and events reported by parent chapter of SEPTA. Chairperson must be a member of both PTA and SEPTA. Chairperson also communicates and prepares event information for Whitcomb families.
Fifth Grade Party Chair
The fifth-grade events chairperson is responsible for handling the activities of the fifth-grade class. They work in connection with the fifth-grade teachers and they oversee events such as the pool party. Help 5th graders celebrate their last year at Whitcomb with a pool party and autograph party at the end of the school year. Pool party is usually held at one of the neighborhood pools, across the street from Whitcomb or at the Community Center. Reserve pool party under President's discretion.
Copycats Chair
Each grade level needs multiple volunteers to help teachers and support staff with various materials or projects. These volunteers should be available to help make copies and/or laminate for teachers and support staff (including literacy coach, math coach, counselor, nurse, etc.) on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Copycats chairperson is responsible for scheduling and training all copycat volunteers. All copycat volunteers must sign confidentiality agreement before being allowed to work in school.
Decorations Committee Chair
Responsible for designing, producing and setting up decorations at all PTA events including, but not limited to, festival, Teacher Appreciation Week, movie nights, dances, Pastries with Parents and other school calendar events as needed. Work with 2nd VP to coordinate all decorations for event.
